REPORT:De-mystifying the User Experience

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

This online short programme was presented by Ronel Mor and held on August 26th, 2021. In the programme, Ronel introduced us an equation with which to understand user experience, formulated based on his extensive experiences as a designer, a researcher and a practitioner in business and academia. Here is a short report written by a participant of the programme:

"Using the formula to understand user experience” was really eye-opening. I found it very useful to analyse services and products that I had intuitively felt were good. I think this method will not only help the team to evaluate new ideas, but also to identify the strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement from the user's perspective. There were many discoveries that came to light for the first time by drawing a complex UX in a very simple but elegant way.

At first I thought it was a complicated equation, but it was simple and made a lot of sense to me when I learned it.

I was reminded of the fact that I always do things that deviate from this simple equation.

Another thing that struck me this time was how smooth it was to work in groups.

There are many reasons for this, but it was the best feeling I have ever had.

-The theme was simple and focused on one topic.

-The output was something that could be expressed in text, so there was more time for discussion

-The group members happened to be familiar with the topic.

It was also interesting that the output was not the same, as it might be every time.

The diversity and experience of the participants is the reason why there are so many ideas on the seemingly unchangeable theme of elevators.

The Paralympic Games were just around the corner and I feel that if we could have had the perspective of people with physical challenges, we could have come up with new ideas.

It would also have been nice to have a case for a wide range of ages. It may not be possible to think that far in a workshop, but I imagined that it would be more interesting to have a wider range of participants. (Yuji Takase, Business Designer)
